Nothing wrong with the cherries of course, in fact feel free to purchase some chocolate cherries here. But this was our first encounter of the Chukar in Eastern Washington, something between a pheasant and a quail the Chukar are a bit of a rare site. This group or ‘covey’ of Chukar marched right past us and quickly disappeared behind very low shrubs and snow drifts. They have a distinct stripe across their eye dividing their gray and white coloring as well as zebra stripes on their sides. They have a somewhat smaller range in North America, mostly living between the Cascades and Rocky Mountains. On this trip we spotted them about an hour north east of Wenatchee a little past Waterville.
As you can see this was a winter trip, where we enjoyed skiing at Mission Ridge Ski Area, my son’s first snowboard lesson and my first time skiing in probably 15 years! Mission Ridge was great, it is much less expensive than other Ski Resorts in the state, and while there are only four lifts there are many ways to come down the mountain with incredible views from the top.
