For our annual spring break trip we wanted to head some where warm with the Scamp, and being early April we knew we had to head pretty far south to find some sunshine. With only one week we could not visit all of the Mighty Five National Parks in Utah, so we chose Zion and Arches National Parks to split up the trip between the west and east side of Southern Utah.

Our final destination in Belize was of course the coast! While many travel to San Pedro to see the Caribbean in Belize we instead chose Placencia, a charming little town at the very tip of a peninsula in southern Belize. Not too far from Placencia, nestled in the jungle, lies the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary – an incredible spot for wildlife viewing.
Leave a CommentPart two of our birding adventure in Belize takes place in and around San Ignacio. San Ignacio is inland Belize near the Guatemala border, here you can find rivers, jungles, caves and Mayan ruins to explore.
Leave a CommentAs much as we love our great Pacific Northwest and all the amazing local birds, when it get’s cold, dark, and dreary it is a good time to travel to the sunshine. Last winter we found our sunshine in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This year we chose Belize!
1 CommentPart two of our summer adventure took us back north from Grand Teton into Yellowstone National Park. Summertime is the busiest time in these two parks because much of the year there is snow. This is where it is nice to have our little Scamp Birdie, we were able to stay at the Fishing Bridge RV Park which is right in the middle of the park making it easier to get to all the different sites.
Leave a CommentThis spring we decided to visit North Carolina, a state we’d never visited but have always wanted to see and of course do some birding while in the area. On the east side of the state on the Tennessee border lies the Great Smoky Mountains National Park which covers a section of the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains.
Leave a CommentWe tend to get cabin fever sometime around mid-winter here in the Pacific Northwest. For us, trips somewhere warm like Puerto Vallarta is much needed for mental health this time of year, but for a less expensive weekend trip we like to find spots east of the mountains to relax and enjoy nature in a much different environment.
Leave a CommentFour years ago I had the opportunity to visit Puerto Vallarta for the first time to celebrate one of my favorite people as he stepped into his 40th year around the sun. It was my first trip away from my little family since I became a mom and, though I was anxious about leaving my husband and kids for that trip, the anxiety quickly melted away when I took my first step into that beautiful sunshine.
